FSSAI License

Food adulteration is one of the measure issues in India till the commencement of FSSAI, that is Food Safety and Standard Authority of India, which is an autonomous body under the control of the Ministry of Health & Food Welfare. It is a body which controls the food standard and quality in India. Under the same authority one license is given to the individuals, association, companies etc who are doing any type of food related business and that license is known as FSSAI License. To control the adulteration, quality and goodness of food or any eatable items, FSSAI License plays very crucial role. Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 is the statute that established or commenced FSSAI in India. It is a statute or law that regulates FSSAI Registration and Licensing of Food Business Operators (FBO) in India. Every food business owner who involves in the manufacturing, processing, distribution, and sale of food products which basically includes all type of eatable or consumable products, must obtain FSSAI License.

What is FSSAI License?

Permission taken by the government for the manufacturing, selling, processing, distribution, and sale of the food products, which basically includes all type of eatable or consumable products in the market is known as FSSAI License. After the registration or licensing, a 14-digit number has been provided to the individual, association, and companies etc who are doing food related business in one or more state of India. Given number will be printed on all the food packages which are going to be distributed in the market, so that consumer can be aware, whether the respective food item has FSSAI License or not. The basic benefit of this number is that it will provide all the details of the assembling state and producer’s permit to the consumers so that they can be aware about the quality or goodness of the food which they are going to consume.

Types of FSSAI License

Turnover and capacity of production of the Food Business Operators, will decide which Food License or registration will apply on them. Basically, there are three kinds of FSSAI Licenses which are given below-

Central Food License

  • Food Business
  • Owners, whose business is manufacturing, processing, distribution, and selling of food products, which basically includes all type of eatable or consumable products, outside the limit of one state or we can say that food business owners, whose business is in more than one state, need Central Food License to run such food business in the territory of India.

It can be canceled or suspended at any time if any activity against the norms of government or the FSSAI Act is caught by the appropriate authorities.
